Africa Kabaddi Union to Host Bidding & Draws for Major Continental Championships in Zanzibar
The Africa Kabaddi Union (AKU) is excited to announce a landmark event for African kabaddi. On June 23rd, 2026, AKU will host the official bidding and draws for three upcoming continental championships in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
This milestone occasion will determine the future hosts and competition structures for:
- 2027 Africa Women Kabaddi Championship
- 2028 Africa Junior Boys & Girls Kabaddi Championship
- 2028 Africa Men Kabaddi Championship
Bidding for Hosting Rights
For the first time, African federations will have the opportunity to formally bid to host these prestigious championships. Each national federation affiliated with AKU is invited to present at least two representatives during the Zanzibar session.
Interested countries, through their federations, will present their proposals, after which member federations, AKU officials, and representatives from the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) will cast their votes. Successful bidders will be awarded official hosting rights on the same day.
Official Draws & Championship Dates
In addition to the bidding, the event will feature:
- The official draws for all qualified teams,
- The confirmation of championship dates, and
- Preparations for what promises to be Africa’s most competitive kabaddi events yet.
Pathway to the World Cups
These continental championships carry even greater significance as they will serve as qualifying tournaments for the respective Kabaddi World Cups. This makes the upcoming events not only a showcase of African kabaddi talent but also a gateway to the global stage.
How to Apply
All interested federations wishing to host must submit their expressions of interest to AKU by February 20th, 2026. Applications should be sent via email to:
