Host Bidding Session, Official Championship Draws, and AKU General Meeting
The Africa Kabaddi Union (AKU) is pleased to announce that the Host Bidding Session, Official Championship Draws, and AKU General Meeting will take place on Friday, 14th August 2026, at the JAZ Elite Aurora Hotels in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The event will bring together representatives from AKU-affiliated national federations, officials from the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF), and invited government representatives to make key decisions that will shape the future of kabaddi across Africa.
Host Nations to Be Selected
During the bidding session, eligible member federations will present their proposals to host the following continental championships:
- 2027 Africa Women Kabaddi Championship
- 2027 Africa Junior Boys & Girls Kabaddi Championship
- 2028 Africa Men Kabaddi Championship
- 2028 Africa Men and Women Beach Kabaddi Championship
- 2029 Africa Junior Boys & Girls Kabaddi Championship
Following the presentations, AKU member federations, together with AKU and IKF officials, will participate in the official voting process to determine the successful host nations.
Official Championship Draws
Immediately after the host selections, the official championship draws will be conducted for all qualified teams participating in the respective competitions. The event will also confirm the official competition calendar and championship dates, enabling federations to begin their preparations well in advance.
A Milestone for African Kabaddi
The upcoming continental championships hold significant importance as they will serve as qualification events for the respective Kabaddi World Cups. Selecting capable host nations and ensuring high-quality organization are essential to strengthening competition standards and accelerating the growth of kabaddi throughout Africa.
The Zanzibar meeting will also provide an opportunity for member federations to discuss strategic initiatives, review progress, and strengthen collaboration in advancing the sport across the continent.
Invitation to Member Federations
All AKU-affiliated member federations are encouraged to nominate at least two official delegates to attend the meeting and actively participate in the bidding, discussions, and championship draws.
Federations wishing to host any of the championships are invited to submit their Expressions of Interest to hosting@africakabaddiunion.org by 10th August 2026. Bids must be supported by the relevant government authority responsible for sports, such as the Ministry of Sports, National Sports Council, or National Sports Commission, and must comply with the official AKU Hosting Requirements and Bid Guidelines.
